Ty was signed by the Lions as a free agent in February 2017.
2017: A remarkable first season with Leos, Ty was a steady and consistent special teams contributor. Leading the league with an average punt of 47.9 yards and good on 88.6% of his field goals as well as 81.8% of his converts, Ty earned the club’s nomination as both Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and a West Division All-Star (punter).

2015-2016: Ty was signed by the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent in May 2015 and attended training camp with the club before being waived as part of Washington’s final roster cut-down. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in January 2016 before being waived again in May.
2011-2014: Ty enjoyed a successful college career at Alabama-Birmingham appearing in 48 career games and assuming the placekicking duties as a freshman in 2011. The Georgia native was good on 59 of his 77 career field goal attempts along with 145 of 149 conversion attempts for 322 points with the Blazers. He departed the program as the all-time leader in successful field goal attempts (59) as well as with the longest field goal in school history which came from 54 yards against Ohio State in 2012.
Ty was an Industrial Distribution major while at UAB and was a college teammate of fellow Lion Bryant Turner Jr. as well as a high school teammate of former Lions kicker Richie Leone.
