Biography

Coach Pontius attended Biloxi High School from 2007-2010 where he was a member of the football, soccer, and tennis team. He handled the kickoff and place kicking duties senior year.

He attended the University of Arkansas-Monticello as a freshman where he recorded the 6th longest field goal in school history along with handling the kickoff duties.

He returned to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 2011-2012 where he played his sophomore season, helping lead the team to a South Division Championship and connected on a 40-yard game winner to send the team to the State Championship. While at MGCCC, he received his Associate of Arts degree and was selected to 2nd Team All State.

He then attended the University of North Alabama from 2012-2014. He was a two year starter going 16-20 on FG’s and 57-59 on XP’s and going 60% on touchbacks. He also kicked a school record 54 yard game winner senior year, helping lead the team to two conference championships and the playoffs.

Coach Pontius earned the following awards his senior year:

  • 1st Team All-Gulf South Conference Place Kicker
  • Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Year
  • 2 Gulf South Conference Special Teams Player of the Weeks
  • 2nd Team Super Region 2 Team –BSN
  • 2nd Team All-American – Daktronics
  • 2nd Team All-American – USA College Football
  • Honorable Mention DII All-American Team – Don Hansen

After his senior season, Coach Pontius participated in One On One Kicking’s Professional Training and was invited to Rookie Mini Camp for the Indianapolis Colts. He then signed a Free-Agent Contract with the Colts in 2014.
